What is scrapbooking?

Scrapbooking is an art form, melding graphic design, paper crafts and photography. The result is a beautiful, hand-crafted album that preserves your photos and memorabilia for many years to come.

Why should I commission a scrapbook?

A scrapbook is an investment in your legacy. It allows posterity a glimpse into the past, which cannot be grasped from simple photos in an album.

Is it okay to store my photos in an album or shoe box?

Photos are actually very fragile products, which if not protected from the elements will deteriorate over time. Although most albums on the market today are photo safe, many older albums will still cause yellowing of your photos. Products used by Memento are photo safe, and will preserve your pictures for generations to come.

What is meant by acid-free, lignin-free, or PVC free?

Some papers or memorabilia contain acid, lignin or PVC in them, which cause pictures to deteriorate over time. Using archival safe products prevents the erosion of your photos and ensures proper preservation.

What is cropping?

Cropping is necessary to remove parts of the photo which are visually distracting (a messy foreground) or not necessary (extra space). If you do not want your photos cropped, be sure to note this on your Photo Inventory Sheet, or provide duplicate copies of your photos that may be cropped.

What is journaling?

Journaling is writing used to describe the event, photos, or memorabilia on a scrapbook page. Journaling serves to tell much more of the story than can be conveyed in the photo. If you prefer, we can leave room for you to provide your own handwritten journaling on your pages. Or, you can provide your own journaling and we can integrate it into the design of the page. The more information provided about the photos, the more inspired and personal your pages will appear.

Is each page its own unique layout?

At Memento, we believe that a two-page spread provides the most pleasing layout. When you open the album, the page on the left and right will flow together as a complete layout. However, the introductory and ending pages are single sided by design. These are provided complimentary.

How many photos can be included on each page?

That is highly dependent on each photograph. Some photos can be cropped to a very small size. If most photos are 4” x 6”, generally 3-4 can be included on each 12” x 12” page. On an 8” x 8” or 6” x 6” page, 2 photos are usually the maximum that can be incorporated on each page.

Do I send you actual prints or digital images of my photos?

Actual prints are requested. If sending your images in digital format, a separate invoice will be included to cover the cost of printing your photos. Occasionally, Memento will request an enlargement of a photo to create a more dramatic layout. Such requests are covered in the cost of your album.

What size prints should I include in my completed package?

Generally, 4” x 6” are the best size chosen. However, if there is a photo you love, feel free to send an enlargement, such as a 5” x 7” or 8” x 10”. The size of your photos is only limited to the size of the album you choose.

What if I just can’t choose which photos to include?

In the age of digital photography, many people have hundreds of pictures from a single event. Choose the pictures which have the most meaning for you. You may include extra photos for Memento to select from, but be sure to note in your Photo Inventory Sheet which photos you absolutely want to see in your album.

Do you offer gift certificates?

Absolutely! Purchase a gift certificate in any monetary denomination. Or, we can designate the size and level of album on the gift certificate. Gift certificates are offered in beautifully packaged mini-albums, which offer the recipient a short description of what they have received.

What forms of payment do you accept?

We currently are only accepting payment via PayPal. With PayPal, you can use a major credit card, or transfer money from your bank account.
